Website migration checklist with an emphasis on SEO - Checklist 2022
Website migration is a complex process. If the migration fails, it can endanger your business (after migration - broken pages, broken links, loss of positions, slower loading, and much more). This checklist will help you with migration so that you don't forget anything and at the same time you can analyze the benefits of migration.
Site migration is part of the natural evolution of your business. For example, it can be rebranding, moving the website to the cloud, changing the content management system and much more.
If you happen to miss a step, then you may be threatened, for example:
- less traffic
- loss of positions in search engines (keyword ranking)
- error pages (status code 404)
- loss of content
It is important to back up before the migration itself. You can return to the previous operating state at any time.
For a successful migration, it is useful to use crawlers/tools. So you try to get as much data as possible from the website in an automated way (for example using a bot / application / software / tool) for future comparisons before and after migration. Examples of the tools used can be found in the relevant links section of this checklist.
